Friday afternoon, when I picked Ashley up from daycare, I learned that she hadn't been using her left arm for most of the day. A drive to Children's Mercy South and 3 x-rays later, we learned that she had "nursemaid's elbow" - which involves the dislocation of 2 of the 3 bones that make up the elbow joint.
(You can read more about it here: http://www.emedicinehealth.com/nursemaid_elbow/article_em.htm)
The bones have to be (forcefully) set back into place by the doctor, and they wanted to rule out a fracture before doing so. Ashley actually popped them back herself fighting the nurses on the x-ray table.
The good news is that she is all better now; the bad news is that now that it has happened once it could happen again more easily.
One of the nurses was very sweet and gave Ashley's baby doll a matching hospital bracelet.
These pictures were taken AFTER her arm was better... no one but me and Grandma Missy (who went with me for moral support) will ever know how much pain she was in or how instant the relief was once the bones were back in place. The doctor had to cut Ashley's shirt off because she wouldn't even let them look at her arm.
A couple days of taking it easy, and Ashley was all ready for the first "real" snow of the season!
Building a snow fort with Daddy...
Making snow angels...
When we finally made her come in... she was NOT a happy camper!
We told her that we had to dry our gloves/boots/hats and promised to go back outside later!
